ONTONAGON -- The mood was gloomy in Syl's Café in Ontonagon Tuesday morning. At least half of the employees and patrons have family that work at Smurfit-Stone. Mike Rubich, a retired plant supervisor, can't remember a shutdown in the 36 years he was employed at the paper company. "They don't say much," said Rubich. "But I can read between the lines. They believe it will start back up." Yesterday, Smurfit-Stone announced the plant will shut down for 38 days, starting next Monday. The company makes approximately 800 tons of corrugated paper a day for use in cardboard boxes. They'll lay off 150 employees, keeping roughly 50 on to manage the buildings. "Of course it's going to be devastating to our community," said resident Jim Bradley. "But given the state of the U.S. economy, I guess I'm not really that surprised." And mill employees aren't the only ones facing layoffs. "It's not just the mill itself, employees that work at the mill," Rubich said. "It's also the loggers and people that bring resources to the mill." Downtown business owners are worried about how the closure will affect patronage to stores, restaurants, and gas stations. And families wonder if they'll be able to afford Thanksgiving and Christmas. The people TV6 spoke with on Tuesday remained optimistic that the plant will reopen on January 2, 2009. In the meantime, they're worried about what this will do to the local economy. h

Josh is moving out after this week. I don't know if he's going this FRIDAY or not...but I'm DEF gonna have my room to myself!! That's so exciting!! Erin and Andy and come stay over now, and I can push my beds together to make a huge one!! It's gonna be SO nice!!
I actually just moved back into my room on Sunday and found out this information!! Good timing!!
I really thought I'd have more to write about, but I don't!!

When Emily and I smoke in Linda, we always beat cars to spots in awesome ways!
1) We were going down a row and we turned in and there weren't any spots. We saw one in the next row and a car came up behind us and reversed. They saw the same spot as us! While they were reversing, we drove up on the sidewalk and cut over like speed deeeeemons into the spot. Niggers! I'm sure that was screamed. We lauged for 10580220gjdsa038 days.

Everybody should know about that crazy dude in Ontonagon that carries that bag full of flowers around and has also been seen staring at people creepily, talking to nothing, but being nice and just a little senile. He actually had a stroke and is just a little crazy from the drugs maybe?
ANYWAYS! I think I've maybe found one of these crazy dudes in Marquette!! He walks down Lakeshore, or what WOULD be Lakeshore if we were in Ontonagon. This guy has been seen picking up (possibly taking off trees) a large stick and ripping the leaves and extra stems off. ooch

I remember...once, erin and I made up a song about Ontonagon Burning down. I think it may have been sung to the tune of one of Patsy Cline's songs, too!
Ontonagon really DID burn a little last night, and I just wish that I could be singing that song right now. Thinking of good memories..
Bottomline Bookkeeping (oh no! wireless!!), Connies Place, The Movie Store, all the way to Hegg's plumbery...Hegg's just HAPPENED to have a firewall! ha! Computer Building. All of them, gone in a matter of hours!! Poop!
I'm happy nobody was charred or bubbly...but I'm sad that my families can't all stand by STUBB'S this year! That's TOTALLY our spot! ha!
Marie told me, this morning, that she was ready to carry shit out of STUBB'S if the fire made it that far!! What a babe! ha!
Anyways...I'm gonna go find my family and wait for the parade!!

I met a girl named Lizzi! She's AWESOME! I get along with her REAL good. She smokes (Newports, too!!)
We just hang out a lot and get along. It's pretty sweeeeet.
She likes the same kind of music I listen to, thanks to Erin! ha! That's REAL exciting!!
Also, I got a ticket from Christopher's brother! A Campus Cop. THEN, right after being pulled over for speeding, I got into a freaking ACCIDENT!! Corner of Lincoln and Magnetic Street. Catherine and Lizzi were with me in Linda.
This girl pulled out in front of me, as I was heading straight down Lincoln and I rammed right into the back passenger side of her car. Dummy!! Now...Linda has a dangler eye...
She's getting so ghetto!!
When I called 911, right after I got into the accident, I told the lady my name, and she's like,
"Axley? Did you just get pulled over?"
Me: *sighs* Yeah...
Her: OH! I thought I recognized that name!
OH! Two more things! My RA, Aiden McLuckie...cute! And, Randy! I saw him today and gave him a hug! I missed old Randy! I MISS RODNEY!!

Wednesday: TEGAN AND SARA! Erin, Emily, Andy and I MET them! Who the hell? What the hell? That REALLY happened to us! Tegan ranted about Jeffrey Dahlmer! We chatted it up in a "creepy" (Andy) little hallway about the size of a bathroom.
We got there, Emily parked behind Melany's car, which had cones around it because she was practically part of the band! What am I kidding? She WAS part of the band. Following them around Tuesday and Wednesday from Madison to Milwaukee and asked them to MEET us! They met us JUST before they did their sound check, so it was perfect timing. They're awesome people! They could be good friends, if they weren't that famous! Little shitters! Being famous!
Emily and Sara, possibly Tegan too, had a MOMENT! WTF?
Ann Horse opened for good ol' Tegan and Sara! She was pretty good!
At the concert, we got some Tall Boy Papst Beers! It was fun!
I sat next to Emily and some guy. He was weird...and looked dumb! He was typing a text on his phone and I was watching and it said "We should go to a real coffee place sometime. Union coffee is starting to taste like p..." then I stopped looking because Emily asked what he was writing. She saw that I was peeping over.
Tegan screwed up I Know, I Know and it was hilarious! They're funny people! *dies because we met them*
Emily got the playlist after the show because she made eyes with one of the stage hands. Little stinker! Then she gave it to Erin/Andy.
Thursday: The Milwaukee Zoo!
We saw bats that drank from upside-down test tubes. There was BLOOOOOD in it!
Also, in the dark area for the bats was a cat. Don't know what kind, it just looked like a normal house cat! It damn well could've been too! Cute little thang!
Bears that just slept..
There was an elk that had dildoes for horns! That'd be nice to sit on sometime! HA! JK!
A little baby monkey, new to the zoo, and liked to play in front of us. He was trying to hang/swing from some ropes and he FELL onto a bunch of shredded paper. That's nice padding! His name was Tommy!
I got a Rocket Popcicle thing. DELICIOUS!
We skipped the farm animals...cuz really...who wants to see pigs, cows, and chickens when there are farms all around out town?
Erin and Andy got a picture posing as Giraffes and I got one with Emily.

I don't like Cops. They're snitches..at least the ones for campus are snitches!
We have snitches FOR the cops here on campus, but...really...they're all just snitches.
All they do is sit around looking for people who've been smoking or drinking. It's not like they're saving people. They'll just write the people up and cost them more money than they already have to spend for college! haha!
There was ONE time, that I know of, where people actually needed a cop. Just the time that saved our (Erin and I) lives. Someone got stabbed in the neck. They needed a cop...but what were they doing before they were needed? Responding to a snitch. Getting us in trouble. What harm were we causing? We were peaceful.
I don't know where I'm going with this anymore. I'm fucking tired!
I just saw a cop car parked in front of the LRC's entryway closest to Hedgecock and it pissed me off. When I walked by, I just wanted to go up to his window, tap on it and say, "What are you doing here? Waiting to get people in trouble? Go find someone else to harass."

Matt? On a skateboard? What a site that is to see! It's actually kind of fun, except when you fall! I only fell once when Erin, Miranda and I went for a skateboarding/biking(Erin)/rollerblading(Miranda) trip!
Skateboarding is quite the exercise! I was SO tired half way through the trip! It wore me out! Crime!
Luckily, Erin was the van in the rear that was ready to pick up the dead and replenish the dying! haha! She pulled me along and it was nice!
Afterwards, due to the bumpy roads, my feet tingled. It was cooool!
Also, a thing to remember: Buy a skateboard during the summer so I can practice loads and then bring my skateboard to classes and get there faster!
AND, I want to show my skills to Miranda this Fall!

While waiting for my HP 200 class to start here at the PEIF, I called WUPY Y101.1 and told them to tell my Mom Happy Birthday from Her Son! How adorable! They said they'd already said Happy Birthday on air today, but they'd say it again! Yay!
In HP 200, we have to write down the food we eat for the next 3 days...OH GOD! That'll be all carbs and peanut butter! ha! The teacher'll wonder how I'm still alive!!
MIA is keeping me company today.
Somehow, in the messiness of our room, I lost my Hacker book for English...OH POO! That's no good. I looked for it today...but didn't find it.
Hannah came to Marquette today for Espanolandia (spelling?). I went and visited and she gave me pesos so I could get some suckers! I got 9! I had to ask for them, too. I don't remember what I said, but she replied with "dos pesos" and I was supposed to say "uno peso!" to correct her. Instead, I said "Ocho pesos for Ocho suckers". You aren't allowed to speak ANY English in there, but she didn't care, or knew I wasn't from high school. She giggled and said, "good". I took my suckers and said "Gracias bonita" and walked away.
Also, I saw the ceramics friend from Chicago there and accidentally said "ALOHA BONITA!" Just mixed two languages together...oops!
